On June 4, 2026, student-athlete Rene Clert “Bobet” Baterbonia left Talacogon, Agusan del Sur for Manila, carrying a basketball scholarship and a dream of giving his family a better life.
Four days later, the 18-year-old rising basketball star, together with his teammate Divine Adili, drowned during a pre-season team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora.
Presented by ABS-CBN News Documentaries, “Si Bobet at Ako” is a 2026 documentary by journalist Hernel Tocmo that retraces the brief but remarkable life of Rene Clert through the people who knew him best: his family, coaches, teammates, friends, and the hometown that continues to mourn his loss.
Bobet’s story reflects the dreams of many Filipinos who chase a future not only for themselves, but for everyone waiting for them back home.
